Lana Condor, who captured hearts everywhere as Lara Jean in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, just revealed that she too has struggled with an issue that 97 percent of women suffer from — negative body image.
In an interview with ELLE Canada, Condor started off by saying that she doesn’t understand why women feel ashamed about the very imperfections that make them unique.“I look at my friends, and I’m like, ‘You’re fucking gorgeous.’ But they feel like they’re fat and ugly. I don’t know how this happened, that women feel like they need to apologize [for their physical imperfections],” she said.
The 21-year-old then confessed that she was one of many girls who felt like she had to maintain a specific image. When Condor was younger, she trained to be a dancer and struggled with eating disorders and body dysmorphia as a result. “I know what it’s like to have an eating disorder and body dysmorphia—and also what it’s like to be a friend to someone who has that,” she told ELLE Canada. “I think it’s time to give people comfort. You have to eat. You have to stop thinking that a certain body shape is ideal, because it’s not.”
Now, Condor has a healthier relationship with her body and takes every chance she gets to celebrate her positive relationship with food. “That’s why I literally post about every meal I eat,” she added. A quick look through Condor’s Instagram shows pictures of her eating sushi, baked goods, fries— you name it.
