If you’re not wondering who Hardin Scott is, you will be soon. The first official trailer of After, a romantic drama that marries the cheeky romance of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before with a bad boy love interest inspired by Harry Styles, debuted today. Happy Valentine’s Day to us!
The film, based off Anna Todd’s cult-favorite novel of the same name, follows Tessa Young (Josephine Langford), a doe-eyed college freshman who meets a mysterious, handsome British student named Hardin Scott (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) during a game of Truth or Dare at a college party. There’s an instant connection between the two that only intensifies with each encounter. Tessa, according to the plot’s synopsis, had been a loyal girlfriend to her high school sweetheart before she met Hardin.
Tessa and Hardin take a trip to Hardin’s “favorite place” (a lake) where he tells her “I don’t think we can ever be just friends.” Sexual tensions arise after Hardin caresses Tessa’s arm, and then we see clips of their romance seemingly blossom into an actual relationship. But then, something changes and the words “nothing will ever be the same” appear on the screen.
What happened? We will be asking ourselves this daily until April 12 when the movie officially debuts in theaters. Until then, check out the full trailer below:
