Rami Malek Just Realized He Was Awkwardly Snubbed by Nicole Kidman at the 2019 Golden Globes

Being ignored isn’t a pleasant experience, whether it’s by your crush or by Nicole Kidman onstage at one of the most-televised awards ceremonies of the year. At the 2019 Golden Globes Awards, Rami Malek was successful in winning a Globe, but sadly unsuccessful in his attempt to get the attention of Kidman.

Kidman was tasked with presenting the nominees for best motion picture drama, which went to Malek for his portrayal of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. Malek reached out to greet Kidman—even placing his hand on her back to get her attention—but she totally ignored him and continued walking off stage.

So of course, when he visited Jimmy Kimmel Live on Tuesday night, the talk-show host brought up the awkward encounter, causing a flushed Malek to hide his face in his palm.

“I had not seen that,” Malek told Kimmel with a laugh. So what does Kimmel do? Replay the clip in slow-motion. Snub aside, Malek said he’s actually good friends with Kidman and that’s why he didn’t see a problem saying hi to the Big Little Lies star.

“I’ve known her for many years, despite as it may seem from that video,” he said, laughing. “So I thought I could easily go up and say hi. But in a moment like that, it was very awkward. I have a feeling this is probably haunting me on the Internet.”

Kidman may have ignored the Bohemian Rhapsody star, but he did get a chance to talk “massive Queen fan” Kieth Urban.

Can’t win ’em all, right?
