For the first time in weeks, Meghan Markle has stepped out for her own announced event. The Duchess of Sussex is visiting the Royal Variety Charity’s residential nursing home, Brinsworth House. As Kensington Palace tweeted, the charity “assists those who have worked professionally in the entertainment industry and are in need of help and assistance as a result of old age, ill-health, or hard times.” Meghan attended the annual Royal Variety Performance, which benefits the charity, with Prince Harry last month. It was one of her last engagements announced in advance before today’s, although Meghan has done several events since then that were announced day of.
For today’s visit, Meghan wore a dress by Brock Collection and a grey coat by Soia and Kyo. She showed off her calligraphy skills when helping with Christmas decorations.

Inside the event, Meghan, who’s expecting her first child, told residents she was feeling “very good.” At one point, she asked a resident if she had children, and the resident said, “No, I don’t. I had a career.” Meghan responded to her, “That I understand.”
The visit was especially special to the residents and comes as Meghan is said to be finalizing her first patronage. She reportedly met with the Queen last week to discuss which charity she’ll take over as patron of for Queen Elizabeth II next year.
Royal Variety Charity Chairman Giles Cooper said that “the timing of the visit is fantastic as it comes a few weeks after the Royal Variety performance which she attended with Prince Harry. And it comes after her wedding, which all the residents here were watching. We had the television on, Union Jack bunting up and a party atmosphere, so it’s nice to have the bride here.”
