The Backstory of Lara Jean’s Lock Screen Picture in “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” Is So Sweet

If you haven’t seen To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, I currently cannot deal with you. I need you to go watch the movie, and then come back and read this post. For those of you who have seen it, welcome. Take a seat. Let’s discuss this mind-blowing news.

The movie’s director, Susan Johnson, recently talked to ET Online and revealed quite possibly the cutest thing about Lara Jean Covey’s adorable lock screen background. You know the one—Lara Jean is sleeping with her head resting oh-so-carefully on Peter Kavinsky’s chest?

Well, when Johnson was asked about the origins of that particular photo, she revealed that it wasn’t from a deleted scene or anything of the sort. In fact, it was from REAL LIFE. “That was actually one of our crew members who took that photo,” Johnson said. “The two of them were in the green room on set at the high school location, in the area where we put the actors. They actually were sleeping on the couch in that room like that, so we just stood over them and took that picture and it’s so friggin’ cute. So yeah, we just borrowed it from our crew member. (Laughs.) There wasn’t [a scene]. I could make something up, but I actually think it’s cute that they hang out like that.”

Of course it is cute! It is possibly cuter than the moment Peter tells Lara Jean he drove across town to buy her favorite drink for the bus ride! It’s downright endearing!!!!! And while the two don’t seem to be actually dating IRL (Us Weekly reports that Lana Condor, who plays Lara Jean, is dating Anthony de la Torre), it’s still nice to see the world’s best ‘ship come to life. Lara Jean + Peter Kavinsky 4ever!
