I Said No to a Threesome and Now My Boyfriend Is Punishing Me

Dear E. Jean: Recently I hired a new woman in our office. She’s young, pretty, and petite, with long blond hair—men absolutely love her. I invited her to dinner with my boyfriend and me one night because she was new in town and didn’t know anyone. The woman got drunk and asked us if we could have a threesome. My boyfriend, who also works at our company, said yes. I said no. It would be a bad professional decision, because I am her superior. My boyfriend was crushed—he really wanted the threesome. It caused a huge fight between us. I hate her. She has no work ethic; she lies and misses deadlines. I wish I could fire her, but I can’t (it’s not my decision to make). So I have to suck it up and watch her flirting with my boyfriend five days a week—which he is encouraging. In a nutshell: I’ve never hated someone so much in my life. I’m normally a happy person! How do I make peace with this and move on? —Hateful Hannah

Hannah, My Heliotrope: I don’t wish to sully your pure love, but, darling, everyone in the office knows Miss Threesome is torturing you and chasing your boyfriend. The man’s a blight! A stain on your good name! “Encouraging” her—forsooth! Get rid of him! And while you’re at it, create a new revenue stream, boost the company’s bottom line, get promoted to supervisor, and fire the woman!
