bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Defense

Witness my total obsession with Complexion Rescue – I have four tubes on the go at the moment as my skin tone changes so quickly I have to mix up my own. This stuff is an every day wear for me, especially in summer when I can’t bear anything heavy on my skin. And, speaking of, the new Complexion Rescue is heavy. It stayed tacky on my skin for far longer than I was happy with and acts more like an old style SPF50 than a contemporary hydrator.

The theory of this is that it protects your skin from screen light, or HEV, aka Blue Light. Given that almost all of us have screen time one way and another, is it really something for us to worry about? In terms of skin cancer, there is absolutely no evidence to suggest that screens could be a contributor, but as for ageing? It entirely depends upon who you ask. Ask the boffins with no skin care range to sell and they’re highly skeptical, but ask the financially invested experts and they’re convinced. I’m not convinced. I just feel it’s another way to scare us into buying stuff we don’t need. There’s a fantastic Guardian feature HERE that covers off everything and is well worth a read if a niggle of doubt is troubling you.

I can’t see that I’ll ever stop using Complexion Rescue – I LOVE it (it’s HERE with £7 off!) – but I’m passing on the Defense version because it’s not a comfortable wear (for me) and I don’t see a strong enough argument to convince me that I should swap up from a product that I wear daily, absolutely adore and already has SPF25 to one that might or might not shield me from something that might or might not affect my skin.
