Sabrina isn’t the only iconic ’90s witch making a comeback. It was announced in January that Charmed is returning to television.

The CW says the feminist reboot will take place in a college town, and just like the original show, which ran on the same network for eight seasons, will revolve around three sisters who happen to be witches—though it hasn’t been confirmed whether they’ll also be Halliwells, like Prue (originally played by Shannen Doherty), Piper (Holly Marie Combs), Phoebe (Alyssa Milano), or from an entirely new family altogether.

Is there a trailer?

Yes! The CW released an extended look at the new show during the 2018 Upfronts, and we got our first taste of the new sisters, who are dealing with quite a lot of mystery in their lives. We see two young women grieving the death of their mom, when another young woman arrives, claiming she’s their sister. To make matters even more complicated, a stranger tells them that they’re witches and that he’s their advisor. Dramatic!

So, who has been cast in the new coven?

All three lead female characters have officially been cast, TV Guide reports, and the show will star Madeleine Mantock, Melonie Diaz, and Sarah Jeffrey.

British actress Mantock will play Macy, the oldest sister and a genius geneticist. Mantock previously starred in the CW’s The Tomorrow People and AMC’s Into the Badlands.

Diaz will play lesbian activist Mel Pruitt, the middle sister. (IMDB lists Mel’s last name as Pruitt, which would suggest this trio is not from the Halliwell family.) You may have spotted the actress last year in VH1’s The Breaks.Like her character, Diaz is an activist in her own right, and has actively supported the Time’s Up movement and political initiatives via social media.

Jeffrey will play the youngest sister, Madison, who is in her first year of college and desperately trying to join a campus sorority, meaning she is not excited to have discovered her new supernatural powers. Jeffery is also starring in another spinoff coming soon. She’ll play Daphne from Scooby Doo in the tech-savvy new movie Daphne & Velma, helmed by Ashley Tisdale.

The show has also cast Rupert Evans from Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle as a character named Harry. TVLine reports that he’ll play a professor, “handsome, grandiose, a raconteur with an infuriating charm and a mysterious interest in the three sisters.” In the Charmed universe, that may suggest he’s a Whitelighter.

And Ser’Darius Blain, from Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, as someone named Galvin, who Deadline reports is a charming and funny aspiring filmmaker aka a perfect boyfriend.

What does the original cast think?

Members of the original cast have yet to comment on any of the casting choices, however Combs did share her feelings about a reboot being in the works. Back in January she tweeted what looked like a sign of support for the news, but then followed up with a note about piggybacking on the work of the original show. “Charmed belongs to the 4 of us, our vast amount of writers, crews and predominantly the fans,” she wrote.

Who is behind the reboot?

The show is being written by Jessica O’Toole and Amy Rardin, Deadline reports. Both previously worked on hits like ABC Family’s Greek and the CW’s Jane the Virgin. The latter’s creator and showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman and executive producer Ben Silverman will also executive produce the new series. The original Charmed, of course, was created by Constance M. Burge, produced by Aaron Spelling with Brad Kern as the showrunner.

When will it air?

The trailer tells us that it will air on Sundays this fall, but no word yet on when the first episode will officially debut on the CW.
