A simple black, leather crossbody bag for everyday wear is every wardrobe’s MVP. Miraculously, I went for years without one. It’s not because there was a lack of options, but rather because I was hell-bent on getting a dream bag that fulfilled all my annoyingly specific requirements. My bag needed to work both for daytime and evening. It had to have a really thin strap that I could remove if I wanted to turn it into a clutch. It needed to be able to fit more than a credit card and pack of gum, but still be tiny. It needed to have lots of little compartments for pens, hair ties, and other miscellaneous needs. I wanted gold detailing. I wanted zero branding or logos. I guess you could say I was picky. Then, around the holidays this one found its way onto my Instagram feed. I adored everything about it and the fact that it was monogrammed. I’m a total sucker for monogrammed products: jean jackets, necklaces, heck, even silk pillowcases. It’s a touch that makes any object feel more personal and special.

I happily squealed when I got the crossbody as a gift for Christmas. It became my best friend during a New Year’s trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina and proved its usefulness over a week of exploring. Its sturdily built pockets (many of them) and compartments served me well as I stuffed it with my life: cash, a giant portable charger, a USB cord, a chunky case for my teeth aligners, hair accessories, gum, sunscreen, a compact, and my naked cellphone (it wouldn’t fit with a case). Not bad for the bag’s tiny size, right? It also looked equally nice with my casual daytime outfits and when I wore heels and dresses for nights out. Now, I can’t travel without this bag. I can’t go a weekend without this bag. I keep it at my office, too, for after-hours events when I can’t lug a giant tote. I’m so obsessed, I might just get it in red.
