Whoa whoa whoa, it’s finally happening. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before‘s sequel is beginning production. The first film’s two breakout stars, Lana Condor and Noah Centineo, tweeted yesterday that they were on their way to begin shooting the film. Centineo, the film’s Peter Kavinsky, broke the news first, writing, “TATB2 here we come,” with LAX tagged in his post as his location.
Condor, the film’s Lara Jean Covey, retweeted Centineo and added, “💕 i can’t wait to see ya.” Netflix’s Instagram also confirmed the news that yes, sequel filming is going down. “IT IS HAPPENING @toalltheboysnetflix,” the streaming service wrote on its account alongside a screenshot of Centineo and Condor’s tweets.
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before‘s sequel was officially announced at the end of December. In a mini clip titled “Lana’s Christmas List,” Condor and Centineo did a FaceTime call where they drafted up a new contract like their characters did in the film.
Condor told fans, “I am so excited it is officially official,” and Centineo chimed in, yelling, “Bring on the sequel.”
What’s set to happen on the sequel? A love triangle between Peter Kavinsky, Lara Jean Covey, and John Ambrose (casting for that role hasn’t been announced yet), as there was in the book (P.S. I Still Love You was the second in the trilogy). Condor told Cosmopolitan that she was already a little worried about the fan reaction to it.
“I don’t know who’s going to play John Ambrose,” she said last month. “But I do know that we’re looking long and hard into someone who can match Noah’s charm and amazingness, which is very difficult…Whoever we bring in is going to do a great job and I think people are going to be very conflicted.”
She said during The Hollywood Reporter‘s TV Talks Panel in January that even she’s conflicted about the love triangle. “It’s upsetting to me because I’m like: Lara Jean and Peter should be together forever!” she started. “But I’m not really in a place to be so put upon, to say, ‘I have to be with another guy.’ I think Noah is really excited because he wants more drama and conflict. I guess, so do I.”
