[productsample] Well, this is unexpected! I’ve followed Ciate London’s journey from being a little indi nail polish brand to now, where they’re a fully fledged make-up brand. They’re small enough still that they can be agile and implement trends quite quickly which is why you never quite know what they’re going to do next. Jessica is the famous animation from Who Killed Roger Rabbit from back in 1988. I don’t know if half Ciate’s market was even born in 1988 so it seems a strange tie-in – which is not to say I don’t like it, I really do. Anything different (especially at the moment where everything seems the same) is good in my book.

I like the colour selections – you can go light or deep depending on how you feel, but the pigment isn’t what I’d call strong. It’s all buildable, obviously, but you don’t get that big smack-down of colour in one swipe as you do with some. That probably will suit a proportion of users quite well – we all know the pain of diving in an applying far too much and there’s no way back but to take it all off and start again.

The shade I love is that putty colour, second from the start. It’s called Toon Kisses. So, from bottom to top it’s: Carrot Cake, Toon Kisses, Honey Bunny, Drawn That Way, Patty Cake, I’m Not Bad, Sunset Blvd, Oh Roger and Love Letter.

There’s also a super-glam glitter lipstick in Jessica Rabbit, £19 – a pink toned scarlet shade infused with sparkle, and a golden toned highlighter called Roger Darling, and is £26.

I think they’re both gorgeous – what’s especially nice about the highlighter is that it’s not flat. There are some undulations and contours which is a level of detail that I don’t see very often.
