Why Taylor Swift Is Skipping Both the Grammys and BAFTA Awards This Year

Earlier this week, a source told Variety that Taylor Swift wouldn’t be attending the Grammys since she was in London, shooting Cats. The news sparked rumors that maybe Swift would join her boyfriend Joe Alwyn, who is in town for the BAFTA Awards; his film The Favourite has been nominated in several categories, including Best Film and Best British Film.

But ahead of both ceremonies, multiple sources told Us Weekly that Swift would not be attending the BAFTA Awards or Grammy Awards because of her shooting schedule. The sources said she will be busy filming on Sunday, the day of the ceremonies. Swift is playing Bombalurina in the film adaptation of the musical and has shared two photos on her Instagram of herself on set so far in the time she’s been there:

Swift’s friend Emma Stone also has a BAFTA Best Supporting Actress nomination for The Favourite.

Swift and Alwyn have yet to do a red carpet together, but Swift has been supportive of her boyfriend during his award season run in a more low-key way. Swift made a guest appearance at the Golden Globes during the show while Alwyn was in the audience (meaning she avoided walking the red carpet). And she was seen at multiple after parties for his films’ premieres throughout the fall.

But only at the Golden Globe after parties did Swift pose on any red carpet. Swift was photographed at InStyle‘s party, although not with Alwyn. They were still seen together during the night by other party-goers.

The next award show Alwyn is set to attend is the Oscars, which will take place at the end of this month. The Favourite has a Best Picture nomination, and it would be a star-studded opportunity for them to make their red carpet debut as a couple. But with Swift visibly committed to Cats in London for now, that Los Angeles Oscar date is only a possibility, not a probability.
