Shanina Shaik, 27-year-old Victoria Secret model, has finally spoken out about her involvement with the Fyre Festival. Shaik, who is represented by IMG, was paid to promote the event, alongside Bella Hadid, Chanel Iman, Hailey Baldwin, Emily Ratajkowski, and more. Several of the models have been subpoenaed over payments they received from the festival. Shaik is the first model to come forward about her feelings on the festival.

Shaik said she recently watched Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened, the Netflix documentary that goes behind the curtain and into detail about the events leading up to the festival.

“I cried when I watched it,” she told The Daily Telegraph. “It is really horrific what happened. The girls and I were just kind of dragged into it. We would never want to promote something like that or take someone’s money.”

The event, which promised attendees a luxury music festival experience and the opportunity to party for two weekends on an island previously owned by Pablo Escobar, was a massive failure and ended with several lawsuits against its co-founders, Ja Rule and Billy McFarland. Several festival workers remained unpaid after the festival, and McFarland is currently serving a six-year prison sentence.

Shaik told the newspaper that she wouldn’t have wanted to be involved if she’d known there was going to be such a debacle. “I would never promote anything if I knew that it would have that kind of backlash or what became of that. I would never ever want to promote it,” she said. “When a client comes to my agent and has a vision or a project they want to work with us on, my agency always makes sure we are protected and looked after.”
