(ad: presssample/gratis/braceletmyown) The notes that immediately leap out to me in the latest Chanel fragrance, 1957, are the powdery ones which is the element that I love about Chanel No.5. Yet, it’s really not the same at all – cousins, perhaps, but not sisters. It’s constructed by Olivier Polge, and named for Gabrielle Chanel’s birth date (19) and the re-opening of the East 57th Street boutique (57). It’s creamy, soft and aldehyde laden at first spritz with sweet floral notes that immediately identify the fragrance house.
Les Exclusifs De CHANEL 1957
1957 is very much a skin scent – eight white musks were used (who knew there was more than one!) alongside bergamot, neroli, iris, lavender and orange blossom and of course, a woody backdrop using cedar. This is a kind of an uplifting fragrance if those are the type of notes you like. It was familiar and as though I’d worn it before so there was an immediate bond there and it made me smile to wear it. Interestingly, it’s likely to be different on everyone depending upon how your skin reacts to 1957 so I think it is one that you will have to try yourself rather than hope you’ll like it and take a punt on-line. All fragrances do react slightly differently of course but it’s not often you come across one that cites the different reactions as a point. I can only say that if you like No.5 then you’re on a similar track with this. It’s £155 for 75ml HERE.
