Lee Radziwill, the late Jackie Kennedy Onassis’s sister, has died at the age of 85. WWD reports that Radziwill passed away on Friday, February 15. There is no known cause of death at this time.
Radziwell, long a front row fixture at fashion week, will be remembered by the industry for her style and elegance.
“She was the height of elegance, a true icon,” said Christian Dior’s public relations director, Mathilde Favier to WWD. Radziwill reportedly introduced Favier to her husband. “[She was] an incredibly attractive woman who always adapted to whatever the circumstance. She was never overdressed or underdressed…She was incredibly elegant and inspiring, and always ahead of her time because she was a fashion visionary. It’s very sad. It’s the end of an era.”
Radziwill was born to stockbroker John Vernou Bouvier III and socialite Janet Lee Bouvier as Caroline Lee Bouvier. She soared to fashion stardom when her sister married John F. Kennedy (becoming First Lady of the United States), and the two sisters were one of the most famous and highly photographed duos during the 1960’s. During this time, Radziwill worked briefly as an actress (starring in projects like Laura), and more notably as a public relations executive for Armani.
Radziwill is survived by her her daughter, Anna Christina Radziwill. Her son, Anthony Radziwill, passed away in 1999. The family’s funeral plans have yet to be disclosed, but it’s certain that her family, friends, and the entire fashion world are mourning the loss of Lee Radziwill at this time.
