Jo Malone Lupin & Patchouli Cologne

Jo Malone Lupin & Patchouli Cologne

[productsample] While I’m not that keen on patchouli, I’ve got to say that the new collection from Jo Malone, including this one, Lupin & Patchouli, is doing a very good job of replicating the British countryside. The collection is called Wildflowers & Weeds and I’m guessing that Patchouli is the weed in this pairing. I didn’t actually know that Patchouli is a close relative of mint, lavender and sage (or even that those were related!).

Jo Malone Lupin & Patchouli Cologne

There are five limited edition scents, all with decorated bottles, inspired by wild seeded river banks where flowers and weeds grow side by side. The other fragrances are Nettle & Wild Achillea, Willow & Amber, Cade & Cedarwood and Hemlock & Bergamot. It’s easy to forget what riverside walks smell like, particularly if you live in a city, but they’re alive with wet, green, vegetal scents – not all good, although I’ve learned to love the smell of wild garlic over the years. Lupin & Patchouli is predominantly patchouli with soft flower notes representing lupins – it’s a gentle fragrance that conjours the verdant, grassy, nature notes that you can easily find walking about rural areas. I like it, without loving it, and it feels close to the inspiration of the collection. Wild Flowers & Weeds launches in March and the 30ml bottles are £49 each.
