It’s not quite the end for Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik’s romance, but it has slowed down, E! is reporting. A week after fans started speculating the two had broken up because they haven’t been seen together or posted any photos, the outlet has now been told by a source that actually, Hadid and Malik have been on a break for the last two months, but they’re still together, technically (so there’s no Rachel-Ross drama here). They’ve just been work- and self-focused.
The two “have been spending time apart since early November,” the source said. “[They] think it’s best for the sake of their relationship right now.” Their relationship isn’t their top priority currently, the source continued. “[They have] both been really focused on themselves and their separate careers.” For Malik, that has meant being “in the studio recording new music and pushing out his new album [Icarus Falls],” For Hadid, it’s just been taking time for herself as she continues her modeling career, although things have “slowed down” since the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show that was shot at the end of November.
Hadid has remained a supportive partner to Malik on Instagram, liking his tweet about his album release and his December 15 Instagram. She also still follows him on the platform. Malik, meanwhile, keeps a pretty low profile on social media.
He hasn’t followed Hadid back on Instagram since their first breakup, but a source noted to E! that the two have deliberately tried to keep their second try at romance more private. Paparazzi noted Malik appeared to be leaving his New York City apartment to go to Hadid’s right before Christmas, but it’s unclear whether he really went there.
Hadid described Malik as her boyfriend in an interview published in early December by W. “My favorite thing with cooking is to always try to make something new,” she said, divulging a little about their home life. “I will ask my boyfriend Zayn Malik, ‘What do you want today?’ and I’m pretty good at pulling it off.”
