Taylor Swift turns 29 today, and as is customary with her squad, some of her friends are already actively posting happy birthday Instagram tributes to her. While Swift has kept her friendships relatively private this year, the day offers a rare glimpse into those relationships—at least from her famous friends who want to give the public a look at their friendship with Swift. Expect some people, like her very private boyfriend Joe Alwyn, to keep their wishes off the ‘gram.
Here, a round up of the squad members who have posted so far for Swift’s birthday, along with the ones who haven’t yet but did so in previous years. Altogether, they give a sweet, intimate look at the woman Swift is to her friends in private.
Swift, by the way, already thanked the world for all their birthday wishes and announced a Reputation concert film is coming on Netflix on New Year’s Eve.
The Squad Members Who Have Posted So Far:
Gigi Hadid
Hadid shared an impressive three Instagram stories to Swift. “Cheers to many more years of time spent stargazing, cooking, and celebrating epic friendship (which is why we forgot to take pics this year? lol) and all the adventure, love, and light you deserve,” Hadid wrote to Swift in her third and last Instagram Story. “Thank you for being you, you are a blessing and an inspiration to me and so many x @taylorswift.”
Hadid’s (Belated) Tribute Last Year:
Lily Aldridge
Aldridge shared an Instagram Story wishing a happy birthday to “my bestest buddy.”
Aldridge’s Tribute Last Year:
Ruby Rose
The actress, after spending the day in the hospital to get a stuck ear plug out, posted two Instagram stories for Swift this morning. Olivia Benson was involved, naturally.
Rose’s Tribute Last Year:
Martha Hunt
Hunt joined Swift, Hadid, and the Haim sisters during Swift’s very rare public outing with her squad this July. In her Instagram tribute to Swift today, she wrote, “Happy birthday to this queen @taylorswift! I don’t know how you manage to stay so humble and creative while balancing the weight of the world. I learn so much from you. Love you T! ❤️”
Hunt’s Tribute Last Year:
The Squad Members Who Haven’t Posted Yet
Selena Gomez
Gomez has generally been off the ‘gram since the end of September when she announced she was taking a social media break. She’s sought treatment for her mental health and isn’t likely to return from her Instagram hiatus just yet for her own personal reasons.
Gomez’s Tribute Last Year:
Joe Alwyn
Swift’s loving boyfriend who is reportedly “keen” to propose to her “soon.” In interviews, he’s made it clear that his and Swift’s relationship is not for public consumption, and he really isn’t all too active on Instagram to begin with. A public birthday tribute from him could come, but it would not be surprising, given the two’s reluctance to share their relationship with the world, if he kept his message to her private and off the internet.
Karlie Kloss
Back in October, Kloss reassured the world that despite rumors of her and Swift having a fallout, “Taylor and I are still really good friends.”
Kloss’s Tribute Last Year:
Lily Donaldson
Donaldson’s Tribute Last Year:
Haim
The musician sisters were also part of Swift’s public July squad outing.
Haim’s Tribute Last Year:
Cara Delevingne
Delevingne’s Tribute Last Year:
Camila Cabello
Cabello was one of the opening acts for Swift’s Reputation tour, so they spent a lot of time together this year. They sat next to each other at the American Music Awards in October.
Cabello’s Tribute Last Year:
Jaime King
Swift is the godmother of her youngest son.
King’s Tribute Last Year:
Todrick Hall
Hall’s Tribute Last Year:
Claire Winter Kislinger
Kislinger attended the American Music Awards as Swift’s date in October. Swift gave her a shoutout on stage. Kislinger just announced the birth of her son yesterday, and Swift liked the post.
Kislinger’s Tribute Last Year:
Lorde
Lorde is generally pretty off Instagram and social media. She only has three Instagram posts and has not shared a birthday tribute in the last two years, choosing to keep her friendships private.
Ed Sheeran
Sheeran was on a social media break last year during Swift’s birthday. But back in September, Swift made fun on Sheeran on Instagram, a nod to the public the two remain close.
Blake Lively
Lively didn’t share a post last year, but she did the year before:
Abigail Lucier
Lucier shared a photo with Swift back in August and has more limited Instagram activity generally:
Lena Dunham
Dunham said in her November New York magazine profile that she was still friends with Swift to her own surprise. That friendship is kept off-screen though. She hasn’t posted a birthday tribute in the last two years.
This post will be updated throughout the day as more birthday tributes come in.
