Following her August hospitalization for an apparent drug overdose that almost took her life, Demi Lovato is taking the necessary steps to safeguard her sobriety—including defending herself against ludicrous tabloid reports. She singer transitioned immediately from her 10-day hospitalization to a live-in rehabilitation center at the end of the summer, and is reporting now that she’s “happy and clean” despite what celebrity outlets may claim.
In a series of tweets published to Lovato’s account yesterday, she urged her fans to ignore what “sources” might say about her.
“Someday I’ll tell the world what exactly happened, why it happened and what my life is like today…but until I’m ready to share that with people please stop prying and making up shit that you know nothing about. I still need space and time to heal. Any ‘source’ out there that is willing to talk and sell stories to blogs and tabloids about my life isn’t actually a part of my life because most of the shit I see is soooooo inaccurate. So newsflash: your ‘sources’ are wrong. I would love to set the record straight on all the rumors out there but I literally don’t owe anyone anything so I’m not going to. All my fans need to know is I’m working hard on myself, I’m happy and clean and I’m SO grateful for their support.”
The singer also added that her true fans know she’s still sober, and that she’s taking time in Los Angeles to be with family and close friends. Lovato has been fairly active on social media after a brief post-rehab hiatus. The singer first made her Instagram debut after that life threatening accident when she posted a photo of herself voting during the midterm elections in November. Lovato has also been posting post-workout photos (as further evidence that she’s dedicated to staying healthy) and, most recently, announced that she’s been nominated for a Grammy.
“Oh yeah… so this happened…. 🙈😍☺️😝✨ I 💗 you @xtina,” she captioned the post. Lovato is nominated in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category for “Fall In Line”—which she sings with Christina Aguilera.
We’re so glad things are looking up for Demi!
