Gretchen Whitmer has officially won the gubernatorial election in Michigan, beating out her opponent Republican Bill Schuette. Whitmer was a Michigan State Senator from 2006 to 2015, and before that, she served as a Michigan State Representative.
She won the Democratic primary back in August, winning every single county and 52 percent of the vote. Whitmer has campaigned on fixing roads, expanding treatment for those suffering from opioid addictions, cleaning up drinking water, expanding Medicaid, and more.
