During our
French Riviera Roadtrip we were really lucky to be staying in some of the most beautiful hotels in the region, with
Hotel Metropole being one of the most glamorous hotels I have ever stayed at. We arrived in our hire car and it was instantly whisked away from us by the hotel valet while we were shown inside to the check-in desk. Cocktails were placed in our hands as we spied Thierry Henry sat across from us, and before we knew it we were exploring our incredible suite!
The Junior Suite on the fourth floor of the hotel was spacious and had everything you could possible want from a hotel room; plenty of wardrobe space, all the amenities, a beautiful view over the courtyard and comings and goings of the flash cars, and a big squishy bed! The room felt a little dated as they haven’t been renovated since 2003, but despite that I actually really loved the homely feel to it and pretty design on the chairs and bed (and oh my gosh the bedside table lamps were so dreamy and I wanted to smuggle them away in my bag).
And then there was the bathroom. The huge bathroom with a shower that was bigger than my entire bathroom in Sydney. That and the Hermes amenities just screamed luxury.
After getting settled we nibbled on the treats left out for us, and drank the bottle of wine and a bottle of Veuve that we’d brought ourselves. Don’t worry, we didn’t drink all two bottles! We left some for the following evening 😉 we then called concierge to ask for tips on what bar to go to on a Monday night, and wrote down the recommendations. After a quick change we were walking into the Monte Carlo Casino with our free entry tokens that all guests of Hotel Metropole receive.
The staff at the hotel were wonderful, even when we drunkenly stumbled into the lobby with a bag of McDonalds in the early hours, they were still there with a smile! (or maybe that’s my drunk brain imagining it). We ate our maccas in bed and the next morning apologised to the cleaners for the awful leftover maccas smell and rubbish bag, before pottering down to the Odyssey restaurant for breakfast.
Odyssey is the Karl Lagerfeld designed poolside cafe at Hotel Metropole. We decided to have a relaxing breakfast here on our first morning, and then breakfast at Joël Robuchon’s two-michelin star restaurant on our last morning (which was an impressive fresh buffet spread with an excellent a la carte menu to boot – and Mr Henry was sat next to us again, clearly he just couldn’t keep away). At Odyssey I had poached eggs on toast with avocado, and the eggs were honestly the most perfect eggs I have ever had. I ate them too quickly and didn’t get a photo though – sorrryyyy.
After brekky we lazed about by the pool for most of the day, sipping on Pina Colada’s and jumping into the pool every so often to cool off. Despite being mid-September it was 28-degrees every day for the entire week of our roadtrip! This is me though, so I barely tanned.
We had a sneaky peek in the Givenchy spa but opted not to make use of it when we saw the eye-watering prices. However, you can use the saunas, steam rooms, and hammams for free. We just chose not to because it seemed such a shame to sit inside when the weather was so beautiful outside and we had so little time there. If we were there for longer we definitely would have made use of it though!
Hotel Metropole is the perfect place to stay if you’re looking for luxury in Monte Carlo! It’s such a beautiful hotel in a great location, and it’s the only independent hotel in the whole of Monaco. Not to mention the stunning pool and two Michelin-starred restaurants onsite are even bigger reasons to visit. One day I will be back, until then I’ll keep dreaming of those eggs and avocado by the pool.
*We were guests of Hotel Metropole Monte Carlo, however all thoughts are, as always, my own.
