So, it turns out that the world of garden lighting is far more complicated than I’d anticipated. I’ve wanted festoon lights for the fig tree outside my kitchen for ages but our outside plug socket is outdated and doesn’t work properly and without some drilling involved, it wasn’t possible to plug inside for use outside. Until! I found these lovely lights at M&S that have such a thin, flat wire that I can thread it from the kitchen window and still have the window firmly shut and locked.
M&S Festoon Lights
It’s such a miserable, rainy day – with more to come – and these are just so cheerful and dare I say it, tasteful, that they’re an absolute joy to turn on the moment it starts to get dark. There are 20 on a string and that’s not so many that you light up the entire neighbourhood plus the lights aren’t intrusively bright. The wire has a long lead before the bulb (something I’ve learned that you really need to research) train so if you have an outside plug point (usually located near the house) there is some length for you to get it to your chosen bush or tree.
It’s the best £20 I’ve spent in a long time (£19.50 actually) and the whole family loves them. They’re HERE – and of course they’re suitable for indoor use too!
