Who Is the #HimToo Guy? — Son From Viral Meme Clarifies He Doesn’t Actually Support #HimToo

When a mom’s around, there’s always a slight chance she’ll embarrass her children (it’s out of love, right???), but what do you do when your mom posts a viral tweet that insinuates you’re the poster boy for the #HimToo movement? According to the Washington Post, Hanson had just taken a marketing exam when he found out his mom’s words were gaining traction on the internet. In a now-deleted tweet, she posted a photo of Hanson in his Navy uniform with the caption: “This is MY son. He graduated #1 in boot camp. He was awarded the USO award. He was #1 in A school. He is a gentleman who respects women. He won’t go on solo dates due to the current climate of false sexual accusations by radical feminists with an axe to grind. I VOTE. #HimToo.”

In reality, Hanson doesn’t support #HimToo, an online movement spurred by the recent confirmation hearings for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh that suggests men are often falsely accused of sexual assault.

But as the internet is wont to do, the post quickly turned into a meme, with people reposting similar text alongside pictures of… all sorts of things:

To combat the reactions, Hanson made his own Twitter account with the handle @thatwasmymom and wrote, “That was my Mom. Sometimes the people we love do things that hurt us without realizing it. Let’s turn this around. I respect and #BelieveWomen . I never have and never will support #HimToo . I’m a proud Navy vet, Cat Dad and Ally. Also, Twitter, your meme game is on point.”

He’s now been using his new Twitter fame (9,675 followers and counting!) to post pictures of his adorable cats:

And advocate for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Make-A-Wish America, writing that his brother is a child survivor of non-Hodgkin lymphoma:
