Revolution The Mascara

I can’t remember if Revolution has done a mascara before – I’m wracking my brains and can’t actually think of one so perhaps this is their first foray into the category. Weirdly, the mascara market is dipping as more people turn to false lashes and extensions, but there are still plenty of us who really can’t get to grips with falsies and lack the budget or patience to invest in extensions (though I loved my extensions). This particular mascara is causing a bit of stir for being £8 – great value by industry standards, but pricey for the brand. It’s more than some of their palettes.

The brief on this is to give volume and length as well as fanned out, defined lashes. It completely fits the claims – the first thing I noticed was the definition, which usually I would say a fat brush can’t give nearly as well as a spiky, skinny one. But it does and it also gives fanning so that eyes look more open. In terms of volume and length, yes to both, but perhaps not as dramatically as you might expect.  I also got a bit of smudging which doesn’t usually happen but I am wearing a skin oil and that can affect things so I’m not sure, in honesty, I can pinpoint that to the mascara formula. I did find that the wear wasn’t long enough for day and evening – you’d need to top up.  The upshot is that I think this may be a good day mascara but it needs a bit more power for a massive lash, evening one. £8 doesn’t seem expensive for a mascara from any brand, but Revolution usually pitches their prices to the lower end so expectations of this will be higher. Personally, I’d have pitched it at £6 to avoid the expectation!
