Maison Margiela Mutiny Fragrance

Got to admit that Margiela is one of those brands that I certainly know the name of, but couldn’t identify a single product they’re known for or even where to locate a Margiela store. I do know that Maison Margiela used to be called Maison Martin Margiela before Martin resigned to Hermes and perhaps he is still there. John Galliano currently heads up the creative direction of the brand.

The new fragrance was revealed after their show in Paris in September and it’s made to Galliano’s specifications. I think, from the name, you could almost guess its piratey-rebellious ingredients: tuberose, jasmine, leather, vanilla and oud. It’s both softly feminine and has a biker kick to it – like wearing a leather jacket over a long chiffon dress. Personally, it’s not one for me although I liked it more when it had settled onto my skin and warmed through – the initial blast was far to vanilla laden for comfort. This is a very commercial scent – it’s the perfect recipe for popularity and the brand is clearly chasing Gen Z as it has a line up of ‘ambassadors’ to appeal to that demographic. Willow Smith is the one you might have heard of ;-). If you like a sweet floral with a twist, it might be for you and at £82 (HERE), I wish them lots of luck with the target group of 23 year olds who have that amount to spare.
