A Cinderella Story

We met at a Halloween house party in college. I had taken off my heels much earlier in the night and was searching for them as I was getting ready to leave. I couldn’t find them anywhere when he walks up to me, my heels in-hand, and asks, “Are you looking for these?” He had spotted them and brought them over to me during my frantic search. It was like a beer-fueled Cinderella story. With peep-toe pumps instead of a glass slipper. We’ve been together ever since and are celebrating our 9 year anniversary this Halloween.

The Least Scary But Most Lovable Vampire

We first met over 32 years ago working at our university’s on-campus haunted house, where I was dressed as a hunchback and Kathy was “supposed to be” a creepy vampire. I say supposed to be because each time she tired to spook someone who walked through the haunted house, she couldn’t help but burst out laughing making her the least scary vampire ever. It was so endearing and amusing, I knew instantly I wanted to get to know this giggling vampire.—Richard and Kathy

The Pumpkin Patch Proposal

We met through a mutual friend while we were both in I absolutely love fall. When Dave suggested we add painting and a picnic to our annual pumpkin picking adventure, I was more than thrilled. We spent a couple of hours picking the perfect pumpkins at our favorite farm before heading to the local park for pumpkin painting and a picnic. Dave loves to make everything into a competition, so naturally he suggested we turn the pumpkin painting into a contest. We sat across from each other on a picnic blanket carefully creating our own pumpkin masterpieces. When the time came to reveal our creations, I was SHOCKED to see a beautifully painted picture and the words “Marry Me?” staring me in the face. Obviously I said, “YES!” Painting Pumpkins in the Park with a Picnic ended with a PERFECT PROPOSAL!—Jennifer and Dave

A ScareHouse Becomes A Home

My husband, Rob and I met over five years ago. He and I started our first year with ScareHouse in September of 2013. We were both hired on as actors for “Pittsburgh Zombies,” one of three attractions at the haunt during that particular season. ScareHouse is where we met each other for the first time and our bond grew quickly with our shared interest in working in the haunted attraction industry. After a few years of dating, I decided to propose on a trip to NYC. When I proposed I talked about the first day I saw him at ScareHouse with his “ZOMBIE” t-shirt on and I knew there was something special about him that I really found intriguing. When we decided to plan our wedding we knew we had to incorporate Halloween and a spooky theme. With the help of my husband, no detail was left untouched. Everything we decided on had to have a dark and spooky facet to it so that we could reinforce the appreciation we share for Halloween, which brought us together in the first place, into our wedding theme. The most memorable moment of our wedding was played out over and over in our heads during our planning and it became a reality during our first dance when we were surrounded by all of our friends and loved ones in their masquerade masks that were custom made with the help of a dear friend. —Rob and Kevin

Halloween Love on Aisle 3

We were in college, both working at good ol’ Target. I was fairly new whereas Matt had been working there for a couple months now. A regular close in October involved us two acting as back-ups to clean up the Halloween costume/decor seasonal section of the store. We were usually alone, chatting while working our way through the aisles together. Matt would slip on some of the masks and disappear to skulk around the aisles trying to creep me out. I thought he was silly, which for me equals charming. One day I walked out to my car after a shift where he’d left a lot earlier than I. Tucked into the driver’s door handle was a neatly folded paper. It had a phone number and a scribble that said, “call for a good time.” Is that cute or silly or just weird? I don’t know but it made me smile because I knew it was from Matt. I went home and as much as I wanted to call him, instead I let him marinate, thinking he probably knew when I was getting off / when to expect a call. 3 years later, here we are. Living in two different cities but still very together despite how physically apart we are. —Alexa and Matt

Sprint of the Penguins

I met my boyfriend a little over a year before we made things official. One of my good girlfriends wanted to introduce me to a guy she went to high school with that recently moved back to San Diego. While there instant chemistry, the timing wasn’t right and we remained close friends until Halloween of 2016.On the weekend of Halloween, I had gotten home from a wedding late and Kevin was at a bar about ten blocks from my apartment. I was wiped but he reached out and wanted to see me; I told him he had 10 minutes to get to my place or I’d lock the door and go to bed. That was enough motivation for him — knowing he wouldn’t make it in a car with all the traffic he sprinted across town in his head-to-toe penguin costume (if only I could’ve seen the visual of this 6′ 4″ penguin booking it) and made it to my place where he told me his feelings for me. The next day we already had plans to attend a costume party together dressed as Wendy Peffercorn and Squints, we made the relationship official on that day 10/30. —Emily and Kevin

Mystery Scream

I met my mystery man at a Halloween party at my University. No one was allowed to reveal their identity and I still don’t know who he is! I went to the party as batgirl and he went as Scream. We got along so well during the whole party and at the end of the night we kissed. He pulled his mask to one side, and I only caught a glimpse of some stubble. I asked for his name so I could add him on Facebook, and he said he wanted to remain a mystery! I actually never found out who he was, but it was such a good night.—Gina and Scream
