John Legend made history at the Creative Arts Emmys last night, achieving EGOT status with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice for producing the best variety special winner Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert. Each of the men now has an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards. Legend is the first black man to have achieved the honor.

Legend shared a genuine Instagram reflecting on the achievement. “Before tonight, only 12 people had won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony in competitive categories,” he wrote. “Sirs Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice and I joined that group when we won an Emmy for our production of their legendary show Jesus Christ Superstar. So happy to be part of this team. So honored they trusted me to play Jesus Christ. So amazed to be in such rarefied air.”
His wife Chrissy Teigen, meanwhile, also thoroughly documented the night, her pride for her husband, and Legend adding his Emmy to his EGOT shelf at home. She gave that shelf ‘gram an Arthur-inspired caption, a reference to Legend’s cartoon twin:
