This morning in Mumbai, Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas had a traditional engagement ceremony (known in India as a roka ceremony) before their families—one that is preceding the bigger party tonight they will be having to celebrate. Chopra just shared photos of the morning ceremony on her Instagram, which was covered by the minute on the Indian Express.

Chopra’s family posed alongside Jonas’s family and an NP logo in evidence they are pulling all the stops over there. “The only way to do this… with Family and God. Thank you all for your wishes and blessings,” she wrote.
The two also formally announced their engagement following the ceremony:

The priest who performed the ritual confirmed to reporters it had just happened as he exited. “We have performed a puja [a prayer ritual] for a happy and a prosperous life of Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas,” he said, per Indian Express. “After Lord Ganesha’s puja, they performed their engagement ceremony. All the family members were present at the puja.”
This is the first ceremony in Jonas’s and Chopra’s Indian wedding: becoming formally engaged before their families. And this is exactly the way Chopra wants it, a source told E! earlier this week: “Priyanka wants everything to be traditional to respect her family’s values, and definitely an Indian wedding,” the source said. “All of the plans are moving quickly and Priyanka and Nick do not want to have a long engagement.”
