butterLondon Patent Shine Polish

Now that my nails are in much better nick and I’ve invested in a very good ridge filler (Cutex – on offer HERE) I’m really enjoying nail polish again. I’m quite adventurous with colour although default is always a decent nude shade if I can’t decide quite which one, so this selection of butterLondon polishes ticks all the boxes.

It’s so long since I’ve seen anything from this brand (but remember when they stormed the UK with their square shaped bottles and edgy architectural shades – I think there was one called Yummy Mummy that everyone went mad for..) but I don’t remember it being a gel effect from the beginning, as this is, so it’s a formula update.

As you can see in the swatch, the gel-effect works because they certainly are shiny. I love the shades but a couple of them definitely need three coats rather than two and that’s really going to take forever to dry. Speaking of, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t use a speed dry top coat these days which makes extra shine from a nail polish a completely moot point. I found the silk extract infused texture thinner than most (hence, I suppose, the need for a third coat on two of the neutrals) which does make for a very smooth and satisfactory application as  it just glides over the nail.

Shades from bottom to top are: .. oh, lol.. it’s Yummy Mummy! I didn’t look at the names before I swatched! Piece of Cake, Smashing, Bang On and Mum’s The Word. I did struggle with Yummy Mummy to get it completely even and I do not remember that happening first time around with the original formula (which is still available). There are 31 shades and they’re at M&S HERE for £15 each. I’d say that because the texture is looser than many I’ve tried, you need patience with this formula but if you’re prepared to wait for it to dry, you will get an extreme shine on it .. it’s for mindful manis I guess you might say .. if you find it relaxing and therapeutic to be in the moment with your polish.
