Princess Madeleine and Mr. Chris O’Neill have been living in London since the fall of 2015, but visit Sweden regularly to carry out their royal duties, and returned to their native country to give birth to each of their three children.

So why the move to the U.S.? In an official statement released by the palace, the Royal Court explained that the “time and opportunity for the United States is good for the family when the children are still in pre-school age.”

Outside of her familial and royal duties, Prince Madeleine is devoted to serving children’s rights organizations, which appears to play a role in the big move. The palace reports that she will continue her work with the World Childhood Foundation, shifting her focus to needs in the U.S., while her husband will continue to run his business in Europe remotely.
