Now that summer is here and we’ve emerged from winter hibernation, we’re filling our calendars with all the outdoor activities we can think of. When heading to the beach or pool is not an option, we look closer to home, finding fun activities to do with friends, family, and the like. On this summer’s agenda? The driving range. Less commitment than a full-blown golf game, but still allowing us to hone our skills, it’s the low-impact summertime activity we’ve been seeking. Now the only problem is what to wear.
With less dressing rules on a driving range than there are at a private golf club, you can show up wearing more low-key and dressed-down looks than you might when setting up to play a full round of golf. That said, sandals and heels are pretty much out of the question. Stationary as it might be, golf is still a sport after all! Stick to sneakers, loafers, and oxfords, but beyond that, the look is yours to play with. Whether you’re looking for a wrap dress, a pair of tailored shorts, or off-duty denim, you can do it all when heading to the driving range.
Try to keep your look as simple as possible, however, and opt out of unnecessary frills, layer up with ease so that you can remove jackets or bulky tops at will, and don’t go for a two-piece ensemble that’s going to constantly untuck as you hit balls onto the range. For a little more summertime inspiration, check out these driving-range outfits below. You’ll suit up to head to the classic activity, sure, but you’ll also be able to wear them all to dinner or drinks afterward without having to change!
Choose a fake wrap dress that requires no fuss or retucking and tying. Pair it with low-top sneakers to make the look driving range–friendly. For colder summer nights, bundle up in a chunky or oversize knit. We love a classic stripe paired with raw-hem jeans and ankle booties. If you’re a lover of denim, dress it up a little by choosing a skirt in lieu of shorts. Top it with a loose-fitting printed silk button-down to turn heads. Opt into the preppy nature of the sport itself with head-to-toe white topped with a plaid or tweed blazer. There’s nothing like a little print-mixing to get us in the golf mood. Stripes, camo, leopard, and even floral—choose to style all your favorites together for an overall whimsical look. Keep it simple with a graphic tee when seeking that topper for your high-waisted mom jeans. Finish off the look with bright white sneakers that will keep you comfortable all evening long. Top your jeans-and-tee look with a colorful printed jacket. Take it one step further and seek out sporty kicks that match the bright tones as well. When you’re looking for those eye-catching shoes that are flat and comfortable as well, look no further than a brocade or other textured weave this summer. Style it with any denim-and-tee look and you’ll be good to go. When you want that one-and-done ease, a utility jumpsuit is just the thing. In khaki, chino, or denim, seek a silhouette that’s loose without being overly baggy. When you want to be a little more dressed-up and sophisticated, seek a dress that hits at midi length and style it with a pair of sporty sneakers for a juxtaposition that’s never seemed more fashionable.
