Meghan Markle Wears Blue Blouse and White Pants to Watch Serena Williams at Wimbledon

Meghan Markle has just made her first Wimbledon appearance as a royal today, joining Kate Middleton to watch the Ladies’ Singles Final.

Meghan’s friend Serena Williams is competing and had hinted previously in an interview that the Duchess of Sussex might come to watch her “if I keep winning.” Kate is a patron of Wimbledon, and this marks the two duchesses’ first event together.

For the day, Meghan wore a blue and white striped button down with white culottes by Ralph Lauren.

Wimbledon has an extra special connection to Meghan: She attended two years ago as a guest of Ralph Lauren and ultimately ended up going on her first date with Prince Harry during the trip. Harry’s childhood friend Violet von Westenholz did PR for Ralph Lauren and reportedly set them up. Westenholz and Meghan were photographed talking together during Wimbledon that July 2016.

A source told E! that “Meghan had been a part of the London social scene for a while and had slotted into the high society set really easily. And so when Harry told Violet he was having trouble finding someone, Violet said she might just have the perfect girl for him.”

Meghan and Harry ultimately described the first date like this in their first joint couple interview to BBC. “It was definitely a set-up,” Meghan said. “It was a blind date. I didn’t know much about him and so the only thing I had asked her when she said she wanted to set us up was, I had one question, I said ‘Was he nice?’”

“I’d never, never even heard about her until this friend said ‘Meghan Markle,’” Harry said. “I was like, ‘Right okay, give me, give me a bit of background, like what’s going on here?’ When I walked into that room and saw her and there she was sitting there, I was like, ‘Okay, well I’m going to have to really up my game here.’”
