How has it taken so long for this palette to arrive? Terry has been with MAC for many, many years starting on the MAC counter at Harvey Nichols and now, still, as Director of Makeup Artistry for the UK and Europe. I’ve met him many times (nice chap, fellow dog lover) and what’s always apparent is his understanding of colour. He’s got a 7th sense when it comes to nuance in colours – it’s far beyond what you might consider above average or even gifted; it’s just in him. Just follow his Instagram (@terrybarber) to see what I mean – he’s seeing extra in things we wouldn’t even look twice at.
MAC Terry Barber Eye Shadow x 15 Palette
The fifteen shades are a collection of his ‘greatest hits’ charting colour from the 90’s to now. The shades don’t have individual names but if you look at it in collections of three (top to bottom), they’re grouped into ‘moods’. The first trio is A Bit Grungy, followed by Wild Child, Gram Glam, 70’s Pin Up and Stripped Down 90’s. Annoyingly, I’ve swatched in rows, i.e. top, middle and bottom because I didn’t turn the card over that told me to do it in threes. Sorry! What’s really noticeable about the colours Terry has chosen that they’re so deep and rich. If you like to do a variety of smoky eyes, it’s definitely game on with this palette!

From bottom to top, the first five shades are row 1, and the second five are row 2.

And this is row 3. Weirdly, the person that keeps popping into my head the more I look at these colours is queen of the smoky, Sam Chapman. She’s the master of making dark shadows wearable, so she’s bound to have tutorials to give you ideas on how to tackle this. At £49.50 HERE, it’s probably one for the die-hard MAC collector and it’s a Selfridges exclusive.
