I live for doing my makeup, so when the good people at Walgreens asked me to create a lewk using only products sold in their stores, I was ready for my closeup. Walgreens has a massive assortment (those aisles are huge), so I knew I was in good hands. I love shopping there because you can get a giant basket full of skincare, hair care, makeup, snacks (just saying!), and not cry over your credit card bill when you get home. I wanted to create a pretty-but-edgy spring look—something I could wear to both work and a happy hour. Below, check out the breakdown.

The Highlight
I love a good highlight, and gold is my go-to color since it matches my skin tone. Instead of swiping it on straight from the stick, I like to take a bit of product on my index and middle fingers and gently dab it above my cheekbones, in a C-shape around my eyes, on the tip of my nose, and on my Cupid’s bow. I could definitely amplify the drama by applying more, but I was going for a natural spring look.

The Liner
I’ve always struggled with winged liner—especially making sure both eyes match (instead of one flying a bit higher than the other), but this gel pencil was easy to control and glided easily over my eyelid. I started by drawing a thin line at the center of my lid and ending just at the edge of my eye. Next, I followed my natural eye shape from my lower lid up. I connected the two lines with a small stroke to create the classic cat eye flick.

The Mascara
I love mascara. It’s probably the most necessary step in my beauty routine. I have wild lashes—a result of sleeping on my stomach—so I always need to curl them and apply a lot of mascara to keep them in place. I started at the base of my lash line with the Maybelline Total Temptation Mascara and wiggled it until my lashes were totally coated. The jet black color added just the right level of intensity, and it doesn’t transfer or flake—even if I don’t touch up between work and a night out.

The Lip
The High Fever palette brought the heat. I’m not a total expert when it comes to lip powder, so I was nervous about how this would turn out, but (spoiler!) it looked great. Pro tip: if you ever feel confused about how to use a product, you can always ask one of the beauty consultants at Walgreens. They literally walk the aisles waiting to help people like me who have no clue what lip powder is!
The palette had a number of options, like deep purple and hot fuchsia, but the pinky-bronze was calling my name. I used a small shadow brush and started at the corners of my lips, working my way in, and added a touch more to the center to amp up the dimension. The finish felt like a matte lipstick that I knew was going to stay in place all day.

The Final Look
To finish it off, I added few strokes of the Maybelline mascara to my bottom lashes and a little more liner. It was natural and classy with a bit of an edge—just what I was going for.
