You’re a company and you want to make florals groundbreaking for spring. What to do? Hire the YouTube star, Snapchat host, Instagram mogul, and overall beauty king Patrick Starrr. You might remember his first glamorous holiday collaboration with M.A.C., but now he’s back with a second collection that’s all about flora. Starrr took time out of his busy, busy schedule (world domination and the perfectly filled brows takes time, people) to jump on the phone with us to talk Mamma Starrr, inclusivity in beauty, Kim K sliding into his DMs, and of course everything about this incredible second collection entitled “Floral Realness.”

What was your first experience with makeup? Did you steal a lipstick from Mamma Starrr?
Yeah, it was Mamma Starrr! I think I was just obsessed with watching my mom do her makeup and I would want to fix it. Then, I was doing photography and Photoshopping makeup on my friends and family. Instead of photoshopping, I figured why not just apply makeup myself?
You worked at the M.A.C. makeup counter when you were a teenager in Florida. How surreal is it to now have your own collection and line with the beauty brand?
It’s beyond surreal. It’s not just full circle, it’s like full circle and then a couple more Earth rotations, and then some. Orbital rotations, really. For me to be the M.A.C. artist collaborator for 2017 and 2018 and to have five collections launching with M.A.C. is beyond measure. Having this second collection I feel like is almost having a second baby. I feel like Kylie [Jenner] at the moment. It’s a nice Kylie moment.

Will your big reveal of this second collection be similar to Kylie’s baby reveal?
I don’t think anyone will see what I have planned coming. I haven’t been teasing and I haven’t been showing my belly at all in this process. I just love surprising people and I know the content I put out there will be super spectacular.
Everything that I’ve done for this second collection, I’ve curated by myself. From the background, to the costumes, to the makeup, to the art direction, to the lighting, to the photography, the editing, the video editing. For my Instagram announcement of the collection, I edited it six times last night and have watched it back on my phone over a hundred times.
Why M.A.C? You have such a success and following, what made you want to choose this beauty giant?
They’re international and their mantra resonates with me wholeheartedly. It’s “all ages, all sexes, all races.” That mantra alone parallels my own mantra.
Speaking to inclusion, how important is representation in beauty to you?
There’s always some subliminal message there that everyone can be beautiful. For example, putting me in a wedding dress. Who would have ever known, but for five million plus people to see me in a wedding dress, they’re watching because they want to learn how one can feel their most beautiful on their day. The idea of having a man in a wedding dress isn’t so taboo anymore because I’m relating to that person and I’m showing them what I know as an expert in beauty.

How important is it to connect with your fans?
Taking the time to hear their stories in person, whether it’s at Disney or at a grocery store, really taking the time to hear one story and one journey is so rewarding to me. For me to understand these people, whether they’re from broken families or adopted, or have been abused or are LGBTQ, it’s about understanding their story. Also, I love interacting on Twitter. It’s hard to interact on YouTube, I think it’s just a little bit too crazy when there’s a hundred comments flying at you.
You’ve been on America’s Next Top Model with Tyra, shot videos with Kim Kardashian West, Keke Palmer, Katy Perry, who was your favorite to work with? Do you have any secrets or beauty tips you learned from the stars?
Oh my gosh, it’s hard to pick them because I categorize them. I think my favorite celebrity to work on TV with was Tyra. My chemistry with Tyra on camera was so raw so it was awesome. Also, Kim and Katy are up there too, because it’s like, they’re so untouchable. It’s like one in a million to like meet Kim and then it’s one in a trillion of a gazillion to even touch her. Let alone touch her face with your pinky, you know? This morning I posted Kim’s KKW Beauty on Snapchat and she replied back to me on DM saying thank you. I was like, Oh my God, are we best friends right now? Kim Kardashian West is in my DMs.

Tell me about your second collection with M.A.C.?
What’s really cool about this collection is that it’s called “Floral Realness.” Realness. Floral Realness. And it’s the truest floral fantasy you’ll ever see, I think. It’s a spectacle of colors: pastels, purples. pinks, fuchsias. And what’s really mind blowing is that M.A.C. has decided to do two different kits. My first collection that I did with M.A.C. was 12 pieces. It was two eyeshadow palettes, three lipsticks, three lip glosses, three pencils, and a setting powder. So, that was just so much. Looking back to get the whole collection, it was more than $230 or so. With this you can get one full kit for around $50 and both for just about $100. It’s worth triple the price. It comes in this big beautiful box too, with a beautiful face chart.

What’s the inspiration behind the kits?
The inspiration behind each kit is different. One of the kits is called “Me So Chic.” It’s very chic, it’s very pastel. It’s great lavenders and mauve tones. The other kit is called “Me So Fleek.” And that’s kind of like for my baddies out there that want a more edgy look. So, you have a royal blue. You have a fuchsia lip called “Hey Boy Hey.” And there’s another one of the blushes called “I’m Not Blushing” from the Me So Chic kit. It’s very cute because it’s very playful. If you were to describe it in a flower, it’s that badass flower with thorns. You know? You’ve got a little edge to you.
The Me So Chic is that playful girl palette. And one of the items is called “Take Me Home.” It’s for you if you want to be that bad girl and take home a man. Or take me out and go on a date.

Do you have a favorite from the collection?
If I were to pick one item it would be the eyeshadows. They’re just beyond. M.A.C. is known for their eyeshadows, they have set the standard. I think everyone’s going to love it. It’s super beautiful. The colors are wearable for prom, for homecoming, for everything. I kept that in mind as far as the season. Because I am coming out with more collections this year, I wanted this one to be super colorful and fun and bright, but yet approachable for that new consumer.
