Suki Waterhouse Beauty Routine – Suki Waterhouse Face of Amo Ferragamo

When Suki Waterhouse isn’t modeling, acting or working on her accessories line, her downtime is spent watching The Great British Bakeoff. “It’s incredible,” she told ELLE.com. “I’m sad Mary [Berry] is gone but I love the new presenter—they’ve done really well.” The 26-year-old dabbles in the kitchen herself. Cakes are a specialty, so it’s no wonder vanilla is one of her favorite scents.

“I’ll always be attracted to vanilla. I remember it being one of the first things I had in my closet… like, a vanilla extract” Waterhouse said. Fittingly, vanilla is a note in the new fragrance Amo Ferragamo, which Waterhouse is now the face of. The eau de parfum also features rhubarb, jasmine sambac and rosemary—a combo meant to evoke a playful, passionate woman who’s the life of the party.

We recently sat down with Waterhouse in New York’s Bowery Hotel, where she introduced the new scent to us herself, discussed what’s in her makeup bag, and divulged her experiments in DIY beauty treatments (spoiler: it involves mayonnaise).

On which scents give her happy memories:

The back of a baby’s head just reminds me of love and my friends’ babies or my little brothers and sisters. [I like the smell of] earth too—digging soil. It has a great smell. It reminds me of getting dirt under your finger nails. I used to have my own plants, and my whole family each had a sunflower that we’d grow.

On her beauty routine:

It’s not regimented at all. You know how sometimes you go through phases of being really lazy, and then you’re like: why doesn’t my skin look as nice as it could? Oh, because I haven’t bothered to double cleanse or anything like that, and it can really change with hormones, flying a lot, and stress.

On her holy grail haircare find:

My beauty routine is always evolving, just through discovering products. I found this gorgeous hair serum by Minu, and it changed my life, because now I can put this serum in my hair and it doesn’t tangle. You apply it after you wash and condition. It softens my hair so it can go wild, so that’s a change. I’ve been learning a lot more about makeup and I’ve been spending time with Mary Greenwell for Laura Mercier and she really teaches me.

On what’s inside her beauty bag:

Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage and the Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Foundation. I’ve got Tata Harper products at the moment and they have a gorgeous pink serum. Kevyn Aucoin, I love his eye stuff. He has a really thick concealer for when you really just want to completely cover up. If nothing’s strong enough, this stuff is war paint. Finally, Yves Saint Laurent mascara or a simple brow gel—doesn’t matter what brand.

On her favorite face masks:

I love feeling like I’m going to the spa even if I’m going to my room, so I do put masks on a lot. I like Linda Meredith enzyme mask. I love the Tata Harper ones, Jessica Gomes’s Equal Beauty eye mask, and Obaji Vitamin C serum.

On what not to do with your lashes:

I used to wear eyelash extensions—I went through a real phase. Now I’d say don’t touch them because I lost a lot of eyelashes. It’s just a spiral, don’t start. It looks good, but then it doesn’t. They go in wrong directions. They poke into [your eye].

On her favorite decade for beauty inspiration:

I’m into more of a ’60s look. I flip between really simple or really “extra.” I really love Marianne Faithful or Jeanne Moreau, a French actress.

On DIY beauty:

Avocado for your face. I’ve definitely made [masks] before. I’m not telling anyone to do this, but have you ever heard of this mayonnaise one? With egg whites! I also love having manuka honey in the shower as shower gel.

On her favorite red carpet looks:

I love what Wendy Rowe did for me for the premiere of Pride, Prejudice, and Zombies. It was like gold tears. At the [2014] Met Gala, she did a red lip on me—those are probably two of my favorites.

On beauty hacks she’s learned from makeup artists:

Mary Greenwell taught me to use bronzer around the eyelids. She doesn’t really mind using a product for something else, like dabbing lipstick on your cheeks.

On sharing beauty products with her sisters:

If someone’s excited about something, like ‘This has changed my life,” then it will get stolen. It’ll be a cleanser. Or a tweezer! A tweezer always goes missing.
